We strive to share our knowledge by encouraging facility visits or phone calls from therapists regarding patients we co-treat. We also provide educational opportunites for our community therapists and families. We have initiated an ongoing brainstorming study group with our community therapists, encouraging discussions regarding difficult cases and interesting but challenging diagnosis, jointly staying abreast of state of the art treatments. As stated earlier, the multi disciplinary team approach is a high priority at Orthotic Specialists. Our informal lectures include topics and philosophies regarding the team approach, introduction of many types of orthotic devices and the nomenclature associated with them, presentation of the virtues of in-house hands on fabrication, thorough patient care techniques, and most importantly the biomechanics of a properly fitted device. In addition to these informal lectures, we also host formal lectures offering continuing education credits to any community professional in attendance, and cover topics that are valuable to Physicians, Nurses, Therapists and Orthotists. We have been invited to speak at the Physical and Occupational Therapy State meetings, A.T. Stills University PT and OT graduate program, and at a number of private therapy facilities. We have also had the wonderful opportunity of teaming with the A.T. Stills University OT department, in their ongoing research involving Constraint Induced Movement Therapy.
